Prior to going into the private practice of law, Jennifer served as a law clerk, then staff attorney, to the Honorable John H. Rust, Jr., Commissioner of Accounts to the Circuit Court for Fairfax County, from which she developed an extensive knowledge of trust and estate administration. Jennifer assisted in adjudicating issues arising during the trust and estate administration process, including breach of fiduciary duty claims, disputes related to creditors or beneficiaries of an estate, and construction of wills and trust instruments.
Jennifer then worked for several years in commercial litigation, working on cases such as breach of contract claims, claims related to covenants not to compete, and business conspiracy and misappropriation of trade secret claims. She then shifted her practice back to focusing on Wills, Trusts & Estates, including estate planning, administration, and litigation.
At Lucey Law, PLLC, Jennifer assists clients with all matters arising in the Wills, Trusts & Estates practice area.
As an estate planner, Jennifer works with clients to plan for estates of all sizes, based on each client’s unique goals and circumstances. Jennifer has significant experience planning for blended families, divorced clients, and clients living abroad.
Jennifer provides legal counsel in all aspects of administration. She advises individuals charged with administering trusts, estates, guardianships, and conservatorships about their fiduciary obligations and the administration process. She also assists trustees, executors, administrators, guardians, and conservators in minimizing liability and risk, as well as defending against claims and objections. Jennifer also represents beneficiaries to ensure their interests are protected during the administration process.
Drawing on both her Wills, Trusts & Estates and Litigation backgrounds, Jennifer handles litigation and court proceedings related to Wills, Trusts & Estates, such as breach of fiduciary duty claims, will or trust contest actions, undue influence claims, cases to interpret the provisions of wills and trusts, heir determination proceedings, and petitions for aid and direction or declaratory judgment actions when a fiduciary is seeking guidance on an issue. Jennifer also assists fiduciaries to obtain permissions and authorizations from supervising courts when needed.
Finally, Jennifer serves as a professional fiduciary, serving as an executor, administrator, or trustee. Her personal experience as a fiduciary provides a unique perspective and insight when preparing estate plans and advising fiduciaries.
